In Step 1, you learned that you need to take it slow and easy in the beginning. If you try too hard, you will find yourself doing the equivalent of drowning in your spirituality. In step 2 I told you that you need to find a spiritual home if you don’t already have one.
The next step is to:
Create Time
At the end of step one, I encouraged you to come up with seven hours out of the week for spiritual growth. Again, this is seven out of the 168 hours available to you!
I suggest you take out a piece of paper right now and figure out how you spend that 168 hours. Now, if you are like most people, you might sleep for an average of seven hours a day – by the way, you cannot use sleep time for these hours! That would leave you with 119 hours – You work for 40-50 hours a week (I know some of you work more, take it out) that leaves you with at least 69 hours. Try to figure out the hours you need vs. the hours that are more flexible. For example, if you just must watch Monday Night Football every Monday, but you are flexible about some of the other shows, then put 3 hours for “need” and however many other hours you have for “flexible.” I recommend taking two hours a day for getting ready for work and eating (in total). Commute time is completely up to you to figure out.
Now hopefully, when you are finished figuring this all out, you do not have a negative number in the “Total Hours Available” box, because if you do, you are able to create time in ways I haven’t yet figured out! Assuming I am right and a few hours end up showing as available. If you have more than seven hours, congratulations! This step has been made easier for you.
If, however, you have less than seven, it is time for you to decide what you are going to give up.
Seven hours. It’s all I suggest – to start with.
Today’s step is short because it involves homework.
